Christmas is a time of hustle and bustle, but the true reason for the season isn’t to overwhelm you, quite the opposite! It’s meant to bring peace, hope and love into your life.
Christmas trees, Santa Claus, decorations and presents are all things that might come to mind when you think about Christmas. And rightly so, they often take centre stage when we engulf ourselves in the holiday spirit.
But there also are nativity sets, Bibles, traditional carols and Advent, which are important parts of the holiday…but are sometimes forgotten.
Our family celebrates the true meaning of the season. The hope that came thousands of years ago to a world that was facing hopelessness. A baby was born, not to a king or person of influence but to an average woman.
Not only that but the child was born hundreds of miles from home in a stable of all places! Angels announced his coming, he was greeted by shepherds and he slept in a manger. There were no special doctors to help with his arrival, no special statements made, and not even a proper delivery room.
It is a birth story unlike any other and yet it is what started our Christmas.
The Reason for the Season
The reason for the season, Jesus, was a gift to our troubled world. A gift of peace meant to turn hearts towards hope and love. This gift came to change us, transform us and offer us a life filled with joy.
The holidays can be troubling for some and joy may not seem possible. Things may appear hopeless, especially if you are trying to find a place of peace in a world of turbulence.
But hope is still there, a small light that twinkles in the sky, pointing us to the saviour who was born.
There is joy in knowing that the king who was born didn’t come to condemn but rather to save. There is hope in knowing that he came for you and knows you specifically. There is peace in knowing that he makes all things right, even when it seems impossible. And there is love in the gift he brought through his birth.
If you would like to know more about the hope of the season and the plans he has for your life, come in and chat with us in the Marketplace or visit any of the church services offered at this time of year.
We wish everyone a Merry Christmas and pray you find joy, hope, peace and love this holiday season!
