About the event
If you have your first box of bees arriving this May or June and still need a program, this is the practical workshop for you. Daniel Kneblewski will share his Spring and Summer Management Beekeeping program with you. You will learn how to improve your honey yields and be self-sustainable by breeding bees. This local and custom program is based on the Ontario Beekeeping Manual and the experiences gained from master beekeepers and breeders. You will leave this beekeeping workshop knowing the following:
- How to set up and locate your first hive.
- How to read frames and perform inspections with tips and tricks.
- Planning for nectar flow and how to increase your honey yields.
- How to equalize your colonies, when to add boxes and supers.
- Manage pests and prevent diseases over the summer.
- Troubleshooting for non-typical situations.
- Prevent swarms, make splits, breed bees and make emergency queens in the spring or summer.
Daniel Kneblewski is an enthusiastic beekeeper who has received training from master beekeepers and local breeders. In his five years of experience, he has doubled his yard sizes on multiple occasions, caught swarms, bred bees, dealt with significant losses, diseases, pests and performed on-call rescues. In this workshop, he will present the slideshow and perform example inspections. The demonstrations will include techniques with tips and tricks. A handout with links, references, checklists, calculations, and much more will be provided.
