About the event

Beekeeping: Summer Management & Honey Production

Keeping Your Bees Healthy and Productive Through the Summer Season

Now that you have your first bees and your hive(s) set up, you likely have questions — and you’re not alone. Without a solid program or hands-on experience, bees can easily swarm, fall victim to pests, or fail to produce any honey at all. This can lead to major losses in time, money, and effort.

In this detailed, locally tailored class, Daniel Kneblewski will guide you through everything you need to know to manage your bees successfully from early summer through fall preparation. This program is built on the Ontario Beekeeping Manual, wisdom from master beekeepers and breeders, and Daniel’s 7 years of experience working with bees in Southern Ontario.

In this 2-hour class, Daniel covers:

  • A monthly roadmap from June to September — what to do each month for both new nucs and overwintered colonies

  • How inspection routines shift from spring to summer

  • How to check, treat, and monitor for mites and other pests — and which treatments work best

  • Feeding strategies and how to support your bees through summer dearth

  • Tips for rearranging frames and supporting comb building

  • Planning for nectar flow and techniques to maximize fall honey yields

  • How to equalize colonies and the proper timing for adding boxes and supers

  • Troubleshooting unusual or non-typical hive situations

By the end of this class, you’ll know exactly where your bees stand, what risks to watch for, and how to set them up for strong growth — including your honey harvest potential.

Daniel will present a comprehensive slideshow and demonstrate inspection techniques using an empty hive. Bring a notebook—this is a content-heavy class with plenty of practical information. All students will receive a digital copy of the slides after the session.

Daniel Kneblewski is a passionate beekeeper with formal training and mentorship from master beekeepers and local breeders. Over the past seven years, he has doubled the size of his bee yards multiple times, caught swarms, bred bees, navigated major losses, managed new pests and diseases, and performed rescue calls. He currently manages 15–25 hives each year and is dedicated to helping new beekeepers gain the skills and confidence they need to succeed. $55 + tax
