About the event

Join Myles for an in-depth class on the traditional art of brain tanning — a natural, ancestral method of transforming raw hides into soft, durable leather and fur. This class will walk you through every stage of the process, from preparing the hide to understanding the tools, materials, and techniques needed to complete a successful tan.

In this hands-on class, you will learn:

  • How to properly prepare a hide before tanning

  • The full step-by-step brain tanning process

  • Tools, materials, and methods used in traditional tanning

  • How to soften and finish leather for long-term use

  • Practical applications for brain-tanned leather and fur

This educational and skill-building session offers rare insight into a craft passed down through generations — perfect for homesteaders, makers, and anyone interested in traditional skills and natural methods.

Be prepared to observe, learn, and take detailed notes.
